I know organisation is a huge topic. I have many files stored and since having multiple copies of everything is not an option primary because the cost of hdds to maintain the copies. My NAS are set to raid 5 meaning even if one hdd crash data is still intact but constantly I still run into problem as the NAS unit will breakdown. Sometimes the OS firmware gets corrupted, power supply unit of the NAS breaks down, sometimes even the board dies. There are also chances when you are recovering then another hdd goes and goodbye to your data. That is why now I have setup a favourite. I am sorting all the favourites together as to back them up to another NAS.
